I got this question via Twitter a while ago and it’s stuck with me. It’s a tough question but one I’m asked a lot in my training sessions. Why does an employee have to fight for his/her good performance to be recognized but bad ones are over emphasized? I get it. An employee feels like their good work is never recognized. Again, no excuses.Brought to you by: HR Tech Central

Twitter’s greatest strength is in live event coverage. Real-time coverage remains the micro-blog network’s key differentiator, and key advantage against other social media sites, and now Twitter’s looking to further capitalize on this, providing new tools to help advertisers target and reach audiences engaged in live events.

Twitter has apologized for a fraternity-themed happy hour it threw at its headquarters in San Francisco this week that many have regarded as ill-timed given the company’s recent gender discrimination lawsuit and other greater concerns about diversity in Silicon Valley that have been discussed prominently in the media as of late.

It’s never been more important to include paid social media as part of your digital marketing strategy. Between the completely ineffective reach of organic content on Facebook, the ridiculous potential exposure offered by Twitter, and the amount of time prospective customers spend on social media every week, if you’re not advertising on social, you’re seriously missing out.

The longer a platform exists, the more user friendly it becomes through modifications, updates, and increased capabilities—at least, that’s the idea. Luckily that’s been the case for people who use some of the most popular social media sites. As Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn add users and get more feedback, they add features to keep their users happy.

Do you ever hit a writer’s block? Do you ever log in to Facebook or Twitter and just look at a blank message composing box and then log out without publishing anything? Well, here is the solution to the problem: create a social media content calendar. Personally, I create it for a month in advance, but you can plan out as little as a week in advance or as much as three months in advance – whatever works for you.

It’s as if the two main social media outlets that clients use to speak to brands were in cahoots. Two months ago, Twitter allowed users to send private messages to brands without following them. Two weeks ago, Facebook enticed brands to respond to all private messages as quickly as possible. That same day, Twitter announced that users could (finally) send private messages longer than 140 characters. What are the implications of these announcements, and why are they doing more than simply accelerating the transformation of interactions between customers and brands via social media, which had already begun? Let’s get some answers.

As is typical when large news stories break, everyone took to social media, especially Twitter, to broadcast their reactions to the world. And, as is also typical for a major new story, those reactions range from jubilation to harsh disapproval.

Why do some people rise to the top of Twitter and some people are destined for the dregs? Being “good at Twitter” can look really effortless, but seem exhausting to execute. And while Twitter has no gatekeeper, gaining access to another tier of Twitter can appear to be an impossible task. Is Twitter this important to be good at, anyway? The short answer: yes. Keep these 7 reminders above your desk or on a notepad for reference, and you’ll earn a solid Twitter following in no time.

It might seem like all you need to do with Twitter is slap up a profile image, and possible cover image, and then start tweeting. People only follow you because of what you tweet, right? While this is definitely a contributing factor to why someone wants to follow your business or brand, another great element to convince someone to click that follow button and read your content is to have an epic, creative, and powerful Twitter profile.

General consensus seems to be that more followers is better. One of the big stories on Time the other day was "Caitlyn Jenner Reaches 1 Million Twitter Followers Faster Than @POTUS". Who wouldn't want 1 million Twitter followers? It seems like a great way to be able to reach more people and influence them. It turns out that just because you have a substantial following, doesn't mean you can readily convert that following into a substantial impact.

Social media is an important arena for the 2016 presidential hopefuls, especially as their campaigns try to reach specific demographics, such as Latino voters. “Social media is the new coffee shop where neighbors, friends, colleagues and family gather to discuss issues, talk about the candidates and influence others," Ted Cruz’s campaign manager, Jeff Roe, said in a press release. "That is the most important space to succeed as a candidate, especially early on. The opinions of your friends on Facebook or Twitter are far more influential than what any pundit may say on TV. Head count matters more than headlines."

Who you are plays a big role in what you can, and cannot, get away with on social media. This past weekend, Judy Mozes, the wife of Israeli Interior Minister, tweeted a racist joke about President Obama. The tweet caused uproar across Twitter and across both countries. People objected to both the racism of the tweet and the potential damage it could do to US-Israeli relations. Mozes’ tweet and the reaction to it highlight several potential social media pitfalls.
